Punkbooboo wins M-1 Grand Prix

The final round of the 2009 M-1 Grand Prix came to a close on Sunday, with duo Punkbooboo claiming victory and a 10 million yen prize. This was the combo’s first time in the final round of the competition, which saw a record field of 4,629 pairs vying for the title. The duo, formed in 2001 by Tetsuo Sato (33) and Jun Kurose (34), were unanimously voted as the of the final round by all seven judges. Their competitors were NON STYLE (last year’s ), , KNIGHTS, Haraichi, Dynamite, Monster Engine, Nankai Candies , and Harisenbon. Sato and Kurose have competed in the M-1 Grand Prix since it started in 2001, but before this year they had never qualified for the final round.
